Problems that Can Cause Bleeding Gums
Experiencing bleeding gums from time to time does not require an extra visit to our office. We would recommend you mention your bleeding gums during your next visit. However, if you regularly notice you are experiencing bleeding gums, we recommend a call to our office. It may be an indication of a problem with your oral health, such as:
Poor Oral Hygiene
If you are not brushing and flossing properly, you may be causing your bleeding gums. Be sure that you are not using vigorous strokes when you brush your teeth. Use a soft-bristled brush and make gentle motions while brushing. We also do not recommend being rough with dental floss. It is easy to cause trauma if you push the floss into the gums. If you are unsure how to clean your teeth properly, we are happy to help during your next appointment.
Gum Disease
This common condition affects approximately half of American adults during some part of their lifetime. Gum disease can remain undetected due to the lack of warning signs. One of the few signs that may indicate a problem is bleeding gums.
Medications
One of the common side effects of many medications is bleeding gums. If you have recently started a new medication, be sure to mention it during your next visit to our office.
If you experience bleeding gums, it is important not to worry, but it is important to visit us soon. If you are in New Braunfels, TX or the surrounding area, we recommend calling our office to schedule an appointment. We can perform an examination, determine the exact cause, and recommend a treatment plan. We look forward to helping get your oral health back on track.
