Caring For Your Teeth Over The Holidays
It’s hard to believe that December is upon us and, before we know it, we will be celebrating the start of a new year. While we hope that you have a wonderful holiday season with your friends and family, we want to remind you about the importance of continuing to maintain your oral health. If you don’t care for your teeth properly, you can experience issues with dental decay or a dental emergency, two things we know you don’t want during the holiday season.
Follow your Routine
It can be tempting to cut your oral hygiene routine short after a long day of holiday activities. We encourage you to continue to clean your teeth properly, even if you are tired and want to eliminate part of your routine. A thorough oral hygiene routine includes brushing your teeth for two minutes twice a day, as well as flossing daily. This is especially important after indulging in extra sweets during the holiday season. Failure to properly clean your teeth means more harmful bacteria accumulating in your mouth. This can cause dental decay and gum disease.
Travel Tips
If you are traveling over the holidays, it is important to bring any materials you may need for your oral hygiene routine. This is especially important if you use a mouthguard or a bite guard or you are receiving Invisalign® treatment and will need to change your trays during your travels. Although it may be relatively easy to get toothpaste or other dental products you may need, there could be added difficulties, especially if you are in an unfamiliar location or don’t have a vehicle readily available.
