Real Patients, Real Smiles – Dental Implants
Here at Rivercrest Family Dental, we pride ourselves on the care we provide our patients. When we take care of their teeth, we also take care of their physical and emotional well-being. Nothing boosts a person’s confidence like having a bright, beautiful smile. For some people, a beautiful smile may be harder to achieve, especially if they have lost teeth and now have unsightly and problematic gaps. Missing teeth can lead to bone loss, speech impediments, and changes in chewing ability and bite structure, which can cause discomfort and stress. We can resolve these issues by replacing missing teeth with dental implants.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are permanent prosthetics that replace missing teeth. An implant consists of three parts: the fixture, the abutment, and the dental prosthesis. The doctor inserts the fixture into the jawbone to anchor the other two components. Think of the fixture as an artificial root. The abutment sits on top of the fixture, at and above the gumline. Then, the dental prosthesis — which may be a crown, dental bridge, or other type of dental work — sits on top of the abutment.
What Do Dental Implants Fix?
Missing teeth cause more than just an unsightly gap in your smile. They can also lead to bone loss, which, in turn, will cause other health issues like:
- Headaches, facial and jaw pain
- Pain or discomfort when chewing
- Changes in bite and facial structure
- Shrinking gums
- Shifting or loose teeth
Benefits of Dental Implants
Because of their many advantages over other tooth replacement options, dental implants are most often the best solution for restoring a patient’s oral health. Dental implants:
- Are durable and can last a lifetime with proper care
- Look and feel like natural teeth
- Do not require extraordinary care; your daily dental hygiene routine plus regular cleanings and examinations are all you need to keep them in good shape
- Are fixed in place permanently, allowing you to eat and speak comfortably
- Prevent jawbone deterioration, reducing the risk of additional tooth loss and enhancing long-term oral health
